Responsibilities:

Gather and analyse requirements, produce technical designs, create the application, conduct software testing, implement the software solution and support production issues.

Web Developers are responsible for the development of web-based applications (Java).

The MIC Information Warrior - P. Kamalanathan

P. Kamalanathan is a man on a big mission. His aim is to get the party to be fully engaged in Information Technology (IT) and embrace the new media. Admitting the mistake made in the last general election for not giving much attention on the new media, he has now laid out the goals he plans to achieve this year. Among them is to focus and utilise on the new media to help bridge communication with the public, especially to the younger generation who are mostly Internet savvy.

In the course of the interview, he proudly showed off his name card which contains web addresses of his blog, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube channel.

"How much more effective you want us to communicate..." said Kamalanathan.

Rebutting critics of MIC president, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, he spoke confidently in defence of his boss. He said that the MIC party members would not have given Samy Vellu a fresh strong mandate (one year after he was defeated in the 12th General Elections) to be the president if they think he is a liability.

He added that Samy Vellu's urge and devotion to the community "is beyond words" and he can continue to do more for the party.

"It was easier to meet him when he was a Minister, it's so difficult to meet him now," he said, adding that people from all walks of life come to see him.

Nevertheless, he is totally aware that Samy is not holding on to the party presidency for long and said that the party members have utmost confidence in the current Deputy President, Datuk G. Palanivel, whenever he takes over the presidency of MIC.

In the exclusive interview with Klik4Malaysia, Kamalanathan also spoke about his views on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, about MIC's preparation for the next elections as well as delivering some political punches on the opposition coalition parties of Pakatan Rakyat.

Malaysia's Private Sector To Sign Slew Of MoUs With India

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is expected to sign more than 13 memoranda of understanding (MoU) during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's five-day visit to India from Tuesday.

Najib said most of the MoUs would be from the private sector.

"The latest count is 13 and we are still counting," he said in an interview with Indian journalists at his office recently.

The prime minister said both countries would also trade in traditional sectors and Malaysia would like India to continue buying palm oil from the country.

He said several bilateral discussions would be held during his trip, including on road construction, education, information and communication technology, oil and gas exploration, pharmaceuticals, tourism and green technologies.

He said bilateral trade between the two countries had reached US$10 billion (RM33 billion) and hoped it would increase in the future.

Najib described his visit to India as "substantive and not purely ceremonial".

"I will also extend an invitation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to come to Malaysia. It will enhance Malaysia's political and economic ties with India," he said.

To a question on defence cooperation, Najib said India had provided some useful help over the Sukhoi aircraft.

"But we have not bought anything major. Our personnel were sent to India for pilot training."

On whether Malaysia would collaborate with India in nuclear technology for source of energy, Najib said: "We have not made any decision yet as nuclear energy will the last option for the country."

Najib will be accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and a delegation including ministers, menteris besar and chief ministers as well as representatives of the business sector.

During his visit, Najib will meet Manmohan Singh on Jan 20 and is scheduled to call on President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Vice-President Hamid Ansari.

Najib will also attend a roundtable meeting with selected Indian industrialists and launch a Malaysian property exhibition.

The prime minister will also meet the Malaysian community in Chennai, including businessmen and students.

But despite the benefits of putting some money away, most people take a passing interest in actually doing it. As young adults, they don't think much about retirement; then, as adults, credit card debt becomes a way of life.

But the tough economic times that hit the U.S. in 2007 through 2009 were a wake-up call for many people, causing the public's view of saving to shift. If you'd like to make regular saving a part of your life, read on to find out how to conquer the first step: finding that extra money.

You can begin by paying attention to these top money wasting activities.

1. Convenience Stores

Many people don't think about the mark-up they pay for convenience store items. Here's a hint: it's huge. This is because these stores don't purchase food in the large quantities that a grocery store does and also because they make you pay more for the convenience they provide. So, unless it's an emergency situation, avoid shopping at convenience stores. The premium you pay for convenience is not worth the assumed convenience you get. For example, a Coke at a convenience store might cost you a dollar, while you can go to the grocery store and buy a 12 pack for $4. If you tend to pull over for a drink, buy a 12-pack and keep it in your car. If you visit convenience stores often, the annual savings of cutting out these visits can be tremendous.

2. Cell Phone Plans

Take the time to check your monthly cell phone bill - you may be paying more than you need to. If you are using fewer minutes than your monthly plan allows, switch to a lower-rate plan. If you are using more minutes than your monthly allotment, then upgrade to a higher minute plan. Before making any changes to your plan, sit down with a list of your cell phone company's offerings and compare and determine which plan provides the most value based on your needs. Most cell phone companies charge 40 to 50 cents per additional minute, so going over your allowed minutes by 100 minutes one month will cost you $40 to $50 in that month alone. With many minute plan upgrades costing $10 to $20 a month, they'll easily pay for themselves.

You should also scan through your cell phone plan for added features like text messaging and mobile internet. If you aren't really using these features, get rid of them - they're costing you money each month!

3. Soft Drinks

This one is a sneaky money waster. Not only does ordering beverages along with a restaurant meal boost your total expenses, but soft drinks also have one of the highest markups of any restaurant item, and thus provide lower value for your money. Consider a typical family of four that eats out twice a week at fast casual restaurants (typical for a middle class family even today). Assuming an average price of $1.50 for a fountain soft drink, that totals $12 a week, $48 a month, $624 a year. Just cutting out this one item from your meal could mean significant savings that could go into something much more productive, such as a retirement savings plan. If you invest $624 at the market average of 9% a year every year, you would have almost $32,000 at the end of 20 years. So dine out, but opt for water!

4. Unnecessary Bank Fees

Many people unknowingly pay a lot to their banks in the form of fees. If you don't know what fees your accounts are subject to, spend a few minutes finding out. Some banks charge ATM fees for using another bank's ATM, for example. These can be as high as $5! This amounts to a 25% one-time fee for a $20 withdrawal. The key with this type of fee is simply knowing about it. You would be better off using a credit card to make the purchase.

Go back and examine the rules governing your checking and savings accounts. Many people have accounts with a fixed number of withdrawals and deposits per month. You would be better off with an account maintenance fee of $10 a month than getting hit with two or three different fees a month.

Also consider consolidating bank accounts, as often one account with a larger minimum can eliminate numerous fees that might otherwise exist.

5. Magazines

If you're the type of person who likes to occasionally pick up your favorite magazine from the local grocery store or newsstand, consider getting an annual subscription. Even if you don't want the magazine every month, a couple of issues at the newsstand are enough to cover the entire annual subscription. For example, a 26-issue subscription to Forbes Magazine will cost you less than $25, while one issue at the newsstand costs $5.

6. Annual Credit Card Fees

Unless you have a poor credit history, there is no reason to pay annual credit card fees. A host of Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards have no annual fee, yet many people pay up to $100 a year for the privilege of holding a credit card. Unless you're an ultra-wealthy, exclusive holders of an elite-level credit card with exclusive perks, most people should not be paying annual credit card fees.

And speaking of credit cards, make sure you make a payment on time every month, even if it's the minimum. Many credit cards charge $39 monthly late fee charges, charges which accrue interest along with your existing balance.

Be Proactive

Spend a couple hours and go over the above categories along with any other regular habits you may have accumulated over the years. The time will be well spent as it could mean hundreds of dollars of recurring annual savings.

60 Per Cent Of 7 Million Respondents Understand 1Malaysia Concept

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- About 60 per cent of 7 million respondents understand the 1Malaysia concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the feedback received followed questions sent via SMS to about 14 million mobile phone users.

"Some 7 million or 60 percent of mobile phone users said they understand the concept while data by six to seven million more is being processed. This shows that 1Malaysia is a success," he said at the 'Sepetang Bersama Menteri Penerangan Komunikasi' programme here Friday.

Rais said the Information Department had also conducted a survey on the people's understanding of the 1Malaysia concept.

"Some 12,212 respondents interviewed and 62 percent said they understand the objective of the 1Malaysia concept.

"Data from the two groups will form a database so that we can identify areas that need more focus. We will also ask questions via SMS to gauge the depth of understanding."

He said the ministry would also hold more meet the people programmes in kampungs, new villages, schools and via television to raise understanding.

"The programmes will include items like unity, the constitution, Rukun Negara, right to religion, social contract, learning and education," he added.

PM WANTS 30 PER CENT OF RMC INTAKE TO BE NON-MALAYS

PETALING JAYA, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants 30 per cent of intake into the Royal Military College (RMC) to be from non-Malays.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the 30 per cent quota of non-Malays was meant to show that the RMC as a full-boarding school was open to all races in the country.

"Eventhough the new campus located in Sungai Besi will be ready in 24 months but this year when the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) is announced, intake into Form Four and Five will begin as directed by the Prime Minister," he said after presenting contributions at a 1Malaysia charity event organised by Vesta here today.

He said presently the number of non-Malay students in the college was less than five per cent.

He said based on the 1Malaysia concept as espoused by Najib he was confident the intake of non-Malays would increase to 50 per cent.

Ahmad Zahid said RMC graduates could make a choice to continue their education in university or join the military service.

"If they choose to join the military service they will be paid an allowance," he said.

Relating to an allegation by Pas that the "Juara Rakyat" programme used government funds, Ahmad Zahid denied it and said the funds to pay for the programme were from Umno.

"The programme is organised by state Umno liaison bodies and involves private organisations and non-governmental organisations.

"Using the going-to-ground concept, the government always finds ways to be close to the people and ensure that we provide services. That is what we want," he said.

Fizzy Phone: Mobile Runs On Coca-Cola

Bulky mobile phone chargers could soon be a thing of the past with handsets running on soft drinks instead.

Daizi Zheng designed the 'greenphone', which is powered by Coca-Cola, as part of her final university project.

The Central Saint Martins graduate came up with the concept for Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia.

Ms Zheng said the prototype could run up to four times longer than a traditional lithium ion battery and has the potential to be fully biodegradable.

The greenphone's bio battery generates electricity using enzymes to catalyse sugar in the drink.

As the battery dies out, only water and oxygen are left behind.

Unfortunately, Nokia will not be developing the greenphone prototype further in the near future.

Ms Zheng told Sky News: "At the time they wanted something to bring out within the next two years and thought my design was too futuristic."

But she added that bio batteries are being developed by large electronics companies and may be on the market in the next five years.
